Saturday, February 7, 2009

The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) and South Indian Artists Association, have jointly issued a statement asking the film producers to not sign the popular south Indian film actress Nayantara (Nayanthara) to any films. Nayanthara was recenlty signed for the film, Paiyya, opposite Paruthiveeran Karthi for a record salary of Rs one crore, and had received an advance of Rs 20 lakhs from them for film. Given the current market condition not so good over all, the producers asked her to take a paycut, which she did not take well and words were exchanged between her and the producers, and in the end she was replaced by Tamannaah for the film. Nayathara reason for not returning the funds was that she was had to stay home while the film for being prepared for and lost out on other assignments.

Raaz the mystery continuous Review

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

RAAZ
Perhaps, the title 'Raaz' should've got everyone's adrenalines shot-up, anticipating it to be a stupefying ride of roller-coaster. Well, the 'Bhatt' factor seems to spell tremendous magic when it comes to 'Horror'. Of course, who can refuse it or forget the most scintillating horror flicks released by the 'Bhatts'. Years back it was 'Raaz' and then '1920' had us tied to our seats and now 'Raaz – The Mystery continues' isn't an elision.

Mohit Suri brims with a commendable directorial and precisely, he strikes with a decent effort on all quotients. Not only does this flick include a gripping screenplay; his top-notch designing of the technical aspects of cinematography and background score too has us raising our hands for a grand applause.

Does 'Raaz – The Mystery Continues' offer a never-seen-before show of an exceptional storyline? Nah! You've the clichéd plotline of a ghost's unaccomplished desire for seeking revenge. But, the difference comes in the form of the unique intentions of a thirsty soul. Don't get surprised to experience certain replicas of 'The Exorcist', or the Recent Hollywood releases 'Mirrors' or 'Stigmata'. With all these properties Mohit Suri doesn't get you disappointed at any moment of the show.

Precisely, at particular points we've him getting through the lines of the 'classic-horror touch' that'll let your nerves frizzled and move you to the edge of your seats. Looking for an illustration; Uh-huh! Kangana's bathtub sequences, Adhyayan Suman dropping cash from an ATM Machine, they are sure to horripilate your senses.

A successful model Nandita (played by Kangana Ranaut) is in love with a creative director of a television program, Yash (played by Adhyayan Suman). Everything is fine and cool until Nandita's life takes a dramatic turn when she meets an artist, Prithvi (played by Emraan Hashmi). He tells Nandita that all the paintings he has made on her are getting disfigured which spells impending danger for her. Initially, she does not believe him but then she starts facing horrifying situations herself. After this, hell breaks loose and an unstoppable storm begins. Thus unfolds some of the most thrilling horror sequences of Bollywood with 'Raaz – The Mystery Continues…'

Kudos to Kangana, Emraan and Adhyayan; they are 'wordlessly stupendous,' showcasing their brilliant performances. Kangana engrosses with her fantabulous actions as a scary girl on the pursuit of detangling the dark-hidden mysteries. Watch her scream while on her anesthesia, they're tremendous getting you awestruck. Obviously, it's a million-dollar expression. On the pars, we have a flabbergasting performance by Emraan Hasmi in a silent-stubborn guy bounded with inscrutable looks. Possibly, Mohit Suri seems to have been vividly influenced by Ed Norton's looks in 'The Illusionist'. Thus getting similar makeovers for Emraan... Doesn't look like a debut show, but a decorous act by Adhyayan. Emoting to different situations of joy, horror and pain, he's patently colossal. Jackie Shroff does justice in his minimal role.

When it's a horror flick, everyone's gotta follow Hitchcock's traits of coalescing the factors of 'foreshadowing', 'pre-planting' and what else? Shuddery twists and turns with shocks 'n' surprisals. Mohit Suri doesn't tread away from the master's theory. If he had penned an impaling screenplay sans unwanted songs and presenting a fine-ending, things would've been far better than the present scenarios.

In fact, a 'horror' doesn't strike richer without perfect musical scores and a spellbinding cinematography. Of course, it's the most innovative angle-moves that fling such a feel… Ravi Waliah's cinematography is top-notch, particularly in the exotic locales.

A short-break from horror is offered through the songs 'Soniyo' [Raju Singh] and 'Maahi' [Sharib-Toshi]. The background scoring is stunningly prodigious enhancing the visuals, especially on scary sequences.

On the whole, 'Raaz – The Mystery Continues' is a superb horror flick with few middling attributes. Although it doesn't happen to be as powerful as '1920', it's worth watching for the enchanting directorial of Mohit Suri.

Victory movie Review

Victory
Cast: Harman Baweja, Amrita Rao, Anupam Kher,Gulshan Grover,Dilip Tahil
Direction: Ajitpal Mangat
Production: Manmohan Shetty, Ajitpal Mangat

It happens to be a welcome First Friday for a couple of debutant filmmakers in Bollywood. Yup! If Zoya Akhtar does it with 'Luck By Chance', Ajithpal Mangal takes on with 'Victory'. Perhaps, film 'n' cricket buffs were elated picking on 'Lagaan' and 'Iqbal'. These flicks had much more about the emotional side touching the poignant theme of unity and integrity. Well, real biggies on cricket field teaming up for 'Victory' got our adrenalines shot up expecting a much greater show. Unfortunately, the film doesn't gratify to audiences' interest in many vistas.

In fact, a film made on 'Cricket' has the clichéd formula of protagonist peaking with triumph as there aren't any other options. 'A Hero Must-Win' factor always persists in any sports-based films and 'Victory' isn't elision. No fault in the script penned; but the lengthy duration of 155 minutes of 'Rise of the Phoenix' story does get everyone annoyed with more fidgetiness.

Ok! In India, cricket is much more than just a game; it is a passion, an obsession, a religion! Millions of youngsters, in all the corners of the country dream of playing for India! A dream which incredibly only one in every 100 million realizes.

'Victory' is the story of a father, Ram Shekhawat (Anupam Kher), who saw such an impossible dream for his son! This is also the heroic story of his son Vijay Shekhawat (Harman Baweja). Hailing from the small town of Jaisalmer, Vijay Shekhawat becomes India's latest world-class batting sensation and is catapulted to superstardom!

But it is the glamour and the glitter of this very demigod status that makes the young, vulnerable small-town boy Vijay stray from his true vocation of cricket. Unfortunately this leads to a loss of focus and to a miserable drop in his performance. But by the time Vijay realizes the error of his ways, it is too late and he finds himself thrown out of the Indian cricket team because of disciplinary reasons. Suddenly the hero of the cricket crazy India becomes a villain in everyone's eyes. His father Ram Shekhawat's dreams are shattered and suffer a paralytic stroke.

This tragedy awakens Vijay's conscience and sense of honor. He wants to redeem himself in the eyes of his father and every Indian. Against great odds, he once again makes it back to the Indian team and gets to play in the finals of the Champion's trophy against Australia where he plays a stellar role in enabling India to win the Trophy. In the emotionally moving final, in spite of being hospitalized mid-innings because of an injury, Vijay returns to bat, risking permanent injury, when India are nine down, to pull off an impossible victory against the world champion, Ricky Ponting's Australia.

In this match Vijay Shekhawat fulfils his father's dreams and enters the pantheon of Indian cricket.

Harman Baweja looks amateurish performing as a cricketer on the grounds. It doesn't matter about his batting skills, but on many parts he fails to emote as an aggressive guy or an elated one. Sweating in liters and rolling eyes-all over doesn't offer a tensed look. Perhaps, watching at least couple of real matches could've got him the psychological feel of emotions displayed on the grounds. Of course, even in most of the sequences outside the field, he isn't up with finesse. Amrita Rao has nothing big to spell apart from supporting the hero and appearing in songs. Gulshan Grover does justice to his role, with this one the farthest distance away from his previous one 'Karzzz'. A flawless performance by Anupam Kher.

Getting on with Debutant Ajithpal Mangal; dealing with a complicated theme with real life characters makes his deserve a grand round of applause. But, the director doesn't accomplish his directorial task so effectively. Especially, his sluggish screenplay in the latter half offers nothing more than boredom to the audiences. Sometimes you yawn and are restless and the scenario seems to be quite different during penultimate scenes as he makes a good comeback with the climax. But every best effort gets weakened due to the irksome screenplay. Not alone Ajithpal, Kannan Iyer too needs to be blamed for it.

Anu Malik doesn't come up with an extraordinary musical on both the songs as well as the background score. Apart from a couple of songs, 'Balla Utha' and 'Money Money', nothing is quite worthy heeding. Cinematography and editing, to a certain extent is commendable, but only a few computer generated works are quite laudable.

On the whole, 'Victory' could have made it bigger on the screens if the entire team had worked on an effective preproduction. Apart from this, it's a film worth watching for the different attempt by this debut filmmaker. Though loaded with more favorite cricketers on the screen, the film lacks solidity on many quotients.

Gopika wish to return

One of the heartthrobs of Mollywood viewers, Gopika who left the tinsel town after her marriage, was in Kerala last week to receive the best actress awards in a channel function last week.

The actress was named for the award for one of the last movies that she acted before her marriage 'Veruthe Oru Bharya', which went on to become the biggest success of her career.

The actress while speaking to media at her home in Ollur made it clear that she don't have any idea to call it a day from cinema. She also made it clear that she is ready to take up new projects, if she can complete her portions in the movie in 15-20 days.

Gopika who is settled at Ireland with her husband Ajilesh, is still keeping a good watch over the developments of the Mollywood industry.

Megastar Mammotty in kannada

One of the latest industry grapewine suggests that Mammootty will don the lead character in the Kannada movie 'Shikari'. To be directed by Abhay Simha, an internationally acclaimed director for his previous film ''Gubbachigalu'' , Mammootty is said to be heavily impressed by the story lines of the movie. The makers of the project including the producers N R Shetty are in the run to bring in Konkona sen sharma to do the female lead.It will be a matter to watch for, how will the actor find time amidst his hectic schedules, to be in this movie. Meanwhile, another story that came up a couple of days ago is that Mammootty has already agreed to be in the lead role, in the movie to be directed by Oscar nominated sound director-Rasool Pookkutty. The film which will present the talented sound designer into movie direction, will be based on the famous novel ''Govaardhanante yaathrakal''. No official confirmations has come out from the actor, regarding his participation in both these movies.
After his colleague superstar Mohanlal making it for the first time in Kannada film 'Love' of national repute director S.V.Rajendra Singh Babu (Debut of Aditya and top actress Rakshita) another Malayalam superstar Mammootty is making his first appearance in 'Shikari' Kannada film in the direction of youngster Abhay Simha.

Mammootty's 'Shikari' will be produced by N.R.Shetty and the chance of the Kannada version getting dubbed into Malayalam is very bright. Mammootty in the past acted with Kannada superstar Dr.Vishnuvardhana in 'Kankanam' Telugu film. After that a few prominent directors and banners tried to rope in Mammootty in Kannada but nothing positive worked out.

The reason for Mammootty to accept is the story that is having shades of pre and post independence. The hero and heroine in the film 'Shikari' go in search of the place they have read in the book.

The national award winning actress Konkana Sen has agreed to star in this Kannada film because Mammootty is in the lead role. Anmol Bhave scores the music, Suchitra Sathe is the editor and Vikram Srivathsav who handled camera in debut of Abhay Simha 'Gubbachchigalu' children film is behind the camera in 'Shikari'.

In the hilly region of Karnataka the Kannada film 'Shikari' starring Mammootty and Konkana Sen is going on the floor in the month of March 2009

The Bachchans Attend Hospital Inauguration

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Oh my gosh, some of Bollywood's most well known celebrities took some time out of their busy schedules and lives to support an important medical event! We are of course referring to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her in laws Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan who were attendants at the inauguration of India's largest and most recently built world class hospitals. The Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute (KDAH) is a massive feat that is going to help countless people that reside in the area. The private hospital has over one hundred outpatient departments, about a hundred and fifteen intensive care units, and seven hundred and thirty beds. These are incredibly staggering numbers, a doctor at the new hospital told sources "The KDAH will not only help save time for patients travelling from far flung places in the suburbs, but also enable quicker treatment without a waiting list as is prevalent in some of the other big hospitals." With the addition of a research facility and medical services available twenty four hours a day, it seems like a great addition for the community. We are especially glad to see that the Bachchans made it out for the event. We are sure their support was greatly appreciated by the hospitals doctors and staff, as Amitabh Bachchan responded to KDAH ''I chose to be treated in several hospitals of the city, even though I could have gone abroad. I think our doctors are equally competent and I find this hospital as one of the best in world.'' We want to know who else is excited to hear about the new hospital? Do you think that it will make a difference in the community? And do you think it will reach needy people? Let us know all your thoughts about the new facility.

John Abraham Gets Up Close With Localites

Handsome hunk, John Abraham is not only spending time in the gym to maintain his hot body, he also has been quite busy these days with his upcoming film 'Hook Ya Crook,' this is another film on the sport of Cricket. Ooh looks like Harman Baweja's film, 'Victory' got some competition! Wonder if John will look as hot in this film as he did in 'Dostana'? Well I guess with a body like his, the man will look hot no matter what character he plays! John Abraham plays a man who gets thrown into prison and is surprised to spot the criminals playing cricket inside the jail. He decides to form a cricket team in prison which later helps him to escape the bars. Sounds like a good plot, I guess there will be more to the movie then enjoying the serious eye candy John Abraham provides us. Recently, John Abraham was at the Chikalwadi Chawl in Grant Road to film a special dance sequence. What a crazy day it was with about 400 junior artists running around and hundreds of onlookers. The sexy John Abraham didn't break a sweat as he stepped up to control the crowd. This isn't anything new for the hunky actor. When the assistant directors hit the panic button due to the overwhelming crowd, John Abraham simply smiled stating that he knew them quite well and that he would handle the situation.

Genelia D'Souza was also there for the shoot. The bubbly actress wrapped up the day early, due to the pouring crowds and distractions. Director David Dhawan and John Abraham sat down later to discuss the next shoot, followed by a scene with him chit chatting with his onscreen friends. The locals were quiet as they watched the actor perform his scene quite intensely. As soon as they finished, the localites pounced on John Abraham. He didn't seem to be phased by them. He signed autographs, spoke to them all night, and let his fans take pictures with him. He also shared a few hearty moments with some young boys of the surrounding area. The crew was surprised seeing John Abraham so humble with the locals. What do our readers think about John Abraham's friendliness with the crowd? Do you think it's way cool? Let us know!

Sanjay Dutt's Biggest Political Inspiration Revealed

The latest Bollywood superstar to join the political clan is none other than our very own Munna Bhai. The biggest buzz that has hit tinsel town in the very beginning for the New Year is the fact when Sanjay Dutt decided to give a break to his filmy career and opt for the political revolution by joining the Samaajvadi Party for the Lucknow district.

The actor recently revealed his biggest political inspiration, who's unsurprisingly President Barack Obama. Sanjay Dutt identifies himself with the democrat leader and considers himself as a perfect role model. Really? Sanjay Dutt believes that just like President Barack Obama, he is quite an outsider and an individual who has gotten over many levels of prejudice. He further adds that he considers himself as a guy next door who has entered politics with no experience and being a family man just like President Obama. Sorry Sanju, can't agree with calling you the guy next door! He plans to learn to balance his personal and political life. Sanjay plans to meet the US President during his next visit. The two met up when Barack Obama was just a senator, where they marched together at the Independence Day rally. Since then Sanjay has gotten quite positive vibes from the world leader, and has earned great respects from and towards him.

The malnutrition UN ambassador is quite happy with the recent turn of events that have taken place in his political life. He hopes that he gets a chance to serve his country better even though his past record hasn't been ideal for a political leader. The actor has put all of his films that are in production on hold and is currently wrapping up all shooting schedules. What do our readers think about Sanjay Dutt putting Bollywood on hold for politics? And do Desi Hits! readers think it's cool that President Obama is his inspiration?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Honored with Padma Shri

Looks like the lady who is known to be the most beautiful women in the world is being recognized for more than just her hotness! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was recently awarded the highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri award for her contribution to the arts. Aishwariya Rai Bachchan received this honor on the Republic Day of India. Go Ash! With Aishwarya Rai Bachchan receiving the award, it brings the number up to five Padma Shris won by the Bachchan family. The first one was won by Amitabh Bachchan's father the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Of course Amitabh Bachchan himself won the Padma Shri twice. Jaya Bachchan took one home too and now the legacy continues with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walking away with one.

Poor Abhishek Bachchan is the only one remaining who hasn’t won. Abhishek Bachchan was not present beside his wife when she received the award. He was shooting in Orcha near Jhansi, but he did send her a beautiful bouquet of flowers, as did her father-in-law. Aww… that’s so sweet! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was thrilled to get a Padma Shri. ‘The award is very special to the family and I'm humbled to receive such high honor from the country,’ Aishwarya Rai Bachchan told sources. Others who were honored with the Padma Shri were Akshay Kumar, Udit Narayan, Kumar Shanu, Penaz Masani, Helen, and Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

It's pretty cool that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was able to carry on her family legacy but should her talent really be recognized? I mean she is a good actress but are there others who are more worthy of it? What do our readers think about her win? Do you think that she is worthy or do you think another Bollywood actress would have been a better recipient? Let us know what you think about the win.

Hrithik roshan injured

Bollywood hunk Hrithik Roshan met with an accident while shooting a stunt scene for his home production Kites at Filmistan studio. He was supposed to break a glass and while doing so some pieces of glass pierced his wrist. He was immediately taken to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Centre in suburban Andheri. After undergoing some treatment, he was discharged.

"Hrithik hurt his arm while doing a stunt shot for 'Kites' at the Filmistan studio. He was breaking a glass with a rod and one piece of glass flew and hurt him. It's a minor injury - there's nothing major," said a source close to Hrithik.

This is not the first time Hrithik hurt himself during the shooting of Kites. While shooting in Las Vegas, he injured his knee as he performed some dangerous stunts. He even injured himself during Krrish and Dhoom 2. He underwent treatment in Singapore as well as a surgery in the United States. For his injury, he had to keep his shooting on halt for few weeks.

"Hrithik Roshan got hurt while shooting and we brought him to the hospital. He has got stitches in his hand but will be out soon," said Anurag Basu, Director.

Kites is one of the much awaited flicks of 2009 starring Hrithik, Barbara Mori and Kangana in the pivotal role.
